About Us

Crush & Cane is flavoured sugar. Not syrup, not a "shot," not a powder that dissolves into a sad film on top of your drink. Sugar, done properly, with something worth adding to it.

Every pouch is hand-packed in a kitchen in London. Not "small batch" as a marketing word, actual small batches, weighed and mixed by hand, shake-tested before anything gets sealed. If that sounds slow, it is. We'd rather it be right.

Why sugar, why not syrup

Syrup solves one problem and creates three more. It's mostly water, it separates, it goes off, and it drowns out whatever you poured it into. Sugar doesn't do any of that. It dissolves the same way it always has, holds its flavour, and doesn't need a fridge or a shake before use. We started asking why flavoured drinks and bakes defaulted to syrup at all, and couldn't find a good answer. So we made the alternative.

How it starts

Every flavour begins on a kitchen counter, not in a lab. Real vanilla beans, real freeze-dried strawberry, real cocoa and coffee, mixed into a base sugar until the ratio actually tastes like something rather than just smelling like it on paper. We test by using it the way you would: in a coffee, on a glass rim, stirred into hot milk. If it doesn't hold up there, it doesn't go in a pouch.

Hand-packed, on purpose

We could send this off to a co-packer and scale faster. We haven't, because hand-packing means someone actually checks every batch before it goes out, not a machine running on trust. It's slower. It's also the reason the sugar in your pouch is the same as the sugar in the one before it.

Family business, mostly literally

Crush & Cane started as one person's stubborn refusal to put syrup in good coffee, and grew from there with help from people who happened to be nearby, including Charlie's grandmother, Jo Wood, who's been part of the brand's story since early on. No focus groups, no boardroom. Just people who thought sugar could be better and decided to prove it.

What you're actually buying

A 100g pouch, hand-packed, sealed properly, made with ingredients you could read out loud without needing a chemistry degree. No syrup. No shortcuts. No pretending a spray bottle of flavoured water is the same thing as real sugar with real flavour built in.
