How to Make a Strawberry Daiquiri at Home

How to Make a Strawberry Daiquiri at Home

A strawberry daiquiri is one of the simplest classic cocktails to make well at home, needing just four core ingredients and a blender or shaker.

What you need

  • 2 oz white rum
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.75 oz simple syrup, or 2 teaspoons sugar dissolved in a splash of hot water
  • A handful of fresh or frozen strawberries
  • Ice

Blended versus shaken

A blended daiquiri is the frozen, slushy version most people picture, made by blending all ingredients with a generous amount of ice until smooth. A shaken daiquiri is the classic bartender's version, shaken hard with ice and strained into a chilled glass, giving a smoother, less icy texture with a stronger rum flavour up front. Both are correct, it depends what you are in the mood for.

The method (blended)

  1. Add the rum, lime juice, simple syrup, strawberries, and about a cup of ice to a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth and slushy. Add more ice if it is too thin, or a splash of water if it is too thick to pour.
  3. Pour into a chilled glass and serve immediately.

The method (shaken)

  1. Muddle the strawberries gently in a shaker to release their juice.
  2. Add rum, lime juice, simple syrup, and ice, then shake hard for about 15 seconds.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe or rocks glass.

Finishing touches

A sugared rim adds both flavour and presentation. Wet the rim of the glass with a lime wedge, then dip it into a plate of Juicy Strawberry flavoured sugar before pouring the drink in. For the full method, see our guide on how to rim a cocktail glass with flavoured sugar.
