Drop 004 is here. Spiced Chai is out now, and it is the first flavour we have made for the cold half of the year.
What is in the pouch
A muscovado sugar base, blended with four spices: cinnamon for warmth, cardamom for fragrance, ginger for a gentle heat and clove for depth. That is the whole list. There is no tea in the pouch, no syrup and no artificial flavouring. You bring the milk and the mug, and the sugar brings the spice.
Why chai, and why now
Vanilla, strawberry and mocha cover a lot of the year. But as soon as the evenings draw in, most of us want something warmer. Chai is the obvious answer, and the usual way to get it at home is a sticky bottle of syrup or a box of sweet powder. We wanted a version that was just sugar and spice, so you control how much goes in.
Muscovado was the natural base. It is soft, moist and dark, with a toffee depth that suits cinnamon and clove far better than plain white sugar does.
What to do with it
- Chai latte: stir a teaspoon or two into hot milk and strong black tea. Our chai latte guide has the method.
- Dirty chai: add a shot of espresso. Here is how to make a dirty chai at home.
- Porridge, toast and baking: swap it in for brown sugar. See autumn recipes with Spiced Chai.
